Killing Eve: Season One - Spring - Charlotte Mitchell

‘Merci Lou Lou!’ ‘Bonjour Claudie!’ Villanelle chirps as she lovingly folds her wigs away into her antique wardrobe. When writing a blog about fashion on film could there be a better subject than a psychopath that has a childish desire to dress up as different fabulous characters - trying on new personalities in simultaneously hilarious and terrifying (always murdery) role plays? No, there could not. And with the Killing Eve season three release date joyfully pulled forward, it seems like the perfect time to delve into her cupboard. This week: season one. Next week: season two.

‘And frankly, she's starting to show off’

Villanelle

French Villanelle From her pitch perfect accent, to her glorious apartment, and constantly overflowing champagne, there's no doubt one thing that has really drawn us to Villanelle is the ‘French Girl’ aspect of her character. Its brimming with inspiration, as she wanders back from the chemist in a muted plum trench coat, wanders down rues with a male ingénue in a patterned sundress, winds up Konstantin wearing one of many silk robes, or, iconically, stands moodily in Molly Goddard in a empty Parisian square. Not to forget of course her killer antique hairpin, last seen driven into the neck of a drug lord in Tuscany. Don't worry though - she has another one.

‘You’ve never called me sausage before’

English Villanelle Just like I might fetishise the lumpy cashmere in Lost in Translation, I was all too tempted to take on the loosely fitting mud-coloured wardrobe of seemingly everyone working at M15 (apart from Carolyn, she's consistent workwear inspo). Though, that would take me far too long, so instead I’m going to take on Villanelle’s English alias ‘Natalie’ in episode four. Her oversized waxy Barbour is a classic and a good reminder to check out Alexa Chung’s recent collaboration with the brand. She also had a brilliant Ian Botham moment in season 2...but I’ll get onto that next week.

them.'

‘Naughty’ Villanelle Even if you’re not prone to stalking or kidnapping that's no reason you shouldn't take note from what I suppose would be best described as Villanelle’s ‘workwear’. When trailing Eve, for example, or arguing with her particularly annoying captive 11 year old, she sticks to a uniform of black jeans, chunky boots, bomber jackets, leather, and large sunglasses. Her (now old season) JW Anderson forest green high neck button-up jacket, with frilled detailing, is a personal favourite.

Extras

Low Chignon A consistent favourite with Villanelle and no wonder, as it's not only effortlessly chic but a classic. This step by step guide is the best I’ve found and not too complex.

‘Letting yourself into my apartment and drinking from a tiny cup doesn't make you intimidating by the way. It's just rude.’

Collagerie Villanelle’s apartment is like your dream Pinterest board, and though it may all look like ‘I got it in this charming little antique ship in the middle of nowhere’, the interiors tab of Collagerie is a pretty good place to trawl.

‘I want to do my job so I can go home, and have a bath’

Villanelle Scent Innocently made drawing inspiration from a spring poem, the scent 'Villanelle' is described as blending ‘a pastoral theme with an obsessive dark image of the subject’ - almost as intriguing as its on-screen counterpart.

'I have lost two jobs and a husband because of you.'

'Yeah, but you got some really nice clothes out of it.'
